ratings vs encounters with my baby brother: 16

My Baby Brother turned up at my doorstep at 6am yesterday and, besides hearing me grumble about mornings and coffees and the natural order of things, had to put up with my back to him as I checked comments, emails, etc on my PC.

The BB:  What are you giggling about?

Me: This comment from my mate in the Netherlands.

The BB: Well, share.

Me: *explains how I'm the Queen of Fucking Awesome, which naturally he knew already, and the fact that I therefore have my own army of minions*  *reads out comment* *much snorffelling ensues*

The BB:  Ha!  Nice one.  I think she should get Minion of the Month Award for that.

Me: Yep.  I'll tell her so.

The BB: *curious*  So what was the post about?

Me: *explains about fangurls, minions and sockpuppets and how they can totally fuck up the ratings of books on readers' sites like goodreads*

The BB: And what do you call the people who call them out on what they do?

Me:  Kris??

The BB: *snort* Try Tall Poppy.

Me:  Fucker.

I hate it when he makes a good point.

This won't, however, stop me from flogging the subject to death.

Obviously.

Grin, smart BB. Or is this a case of 'it takes one to know one'?

Janna, the BB is here at the moment and says 'exactly'. LOL

LOL, I bet he's referring to the 'smart' part of my comment.

He says to tell you he will let you know when he finds it. ;P

He also wants to know whether you're a minion and a sock-puppet.

Finds it? It's right there - 'smart BB' - isn't it?

Neither. But I'm not below sucking up to some peeps. ;D

You would think so. He does your head in, doesn't he?

"But I'm not below sucking up to some peeps."

Ha! Fangurl then. :P

If I'm a fan girl only of a select few. *kisskiss*

Janna: So you're one of my minions then?? The BB thought so.

He's now decided that your question about 'it takes one to know one' was about whether he was a tall poppy. He says 'absolutely not. he's a lantana!'

Nah, a minion goes too far. Or did I strike you as the type? Not really, right?

Oh he's a quick one isn't he? At least he's adding some new words to my vocabulary. ;)

It's bedtime for me... in case you're wondering later where I went.

Minion of the month? Maybe that can be a rotating button that goes from blog to blog.

And I LOVE that photo of the cat overflowing from its bed! Looks a lot like how peeved our cat gets when we laugh at him for it.

Chris: :DDD I have a number of those in my collection... for some strange reason. ;P

Janna: I'll tell him that you find him very edjuamacational. He will be pleased.

Val: The BB pissed himself when he saw the pic. lol

"Maybe that can be a rotating button that goes from blog to blog."

Awesome idea. I need to make myself a button.

Also, that will get you brownies points towards the Minion of the Year Award.

You're welcome.

Oh, I thought it was a choice between minion *or* sock-puppet, and I was going to proudly claim "minion." I don't understand why some people make up a bunch of different identities online. I mean, unless you're playing something like Dungeons & Dragons or Vampire, what satisfaction can you really get from that? My different names come from when I played Vampire. Mostly, though, I just use Emilie when I comment on blogs. It's a lot easier for me to remember.

Minion of the Year!!! A title to aspire to. :D

I think the anonymity of the net lowers inhibitions and gives some people a feeling of power. This feeling gets intensified when they build relationships with others, especially people they look up to and respect like authors. That can be amazingly satisfying, particularly to those who may not have that kind of relationship in their lives. That can lead to becoming a fangurl, etc, etc, but, yes, it can go a step too far when people create identities to deliberately to mislead and bully others.

Indeed. XD

I think I'd have an issue with my brother showing up at my house at 6:00am. Of course you and your brother are closer than me and mine. lol I'd probably just tell him to make himself comfy and then go back to bed. lol

I fear I'll never be minion of the month. *sigh* something to dream about. :)

Kris said...

Tracy: And you think I had a choice about him turning up at that time???

"I fear I'll never be minion of the month. *sigh* something to dream about. :)"

One must always have hope.

I don't think I make good minion material but if they change the job description I might look in to it.

Kris said...

Tracy: Don't put yourself down. If you work extremely hard, I may reward you. Or laugh at you. One of the two.
